Just over a year ago I was asked by Warrington Wolves player Matt King to create the logo for a new sports bat he was inventing. This invention was to be known as the Crackit; a hybrid between a tennis racquet and a cricket bat. After lots of prototypes, developing and hard work, Matt has finally got to see his Crackit on sale in Rebel Sports shops across Australia! My friend in Melbourne sent me this photo to show my logo and packaging design on display in store- how cool! Nice one Matt.
My friends recently got married at the beautiful Peckforton Castle in Tarporley, Cheshire and I was given the task of designing all of the invites and stationary. I started on the design for the day and evening invites last year and naturally wanted to incorporate the lovely backdrop of the castle into the design.
The colours were based on the pale aqua and silver theme of the wedding and I created a light version for the day invites and a darker version for the evening invites. I also created the order of service, name places, table names, table plan and menus.
It was a perfect day and everyone loved the designs which was good! The invites and table plan can be seen below.
I was recently approached by Warrington’s Parr Hall to create the posters and branding for this year’s local music festival. I am a big music fan so something like this is right up my street, plus getting my work and name around town (in a good way!) is always a bonus. The festival was founded in 2007 and has grown year by year becoming more and more popular and is now spread over a week catering for all music tastes. The line up this year looks awesome and features DJ sets from Nick Hussey (Livin’ Joy) and Def Audio as well as live bands from across the region.
If you’re in Warrington from Sat 9th- Sat 16th July, why not bob along? You are guaranteed to have a great time!
As we all know it’s the Royal Wedding this Friday when Kate Middleton marries the future king, William. It’s all gone a bit Royal Wedding bonkers over here in the UK so in celebration of this I’ve created some designs which can be downloaded and used as your wallpaper this week. I’ve also created a ‘colour me in’ picture for kids to join in with the celebrations, please email me via my contact page for a hi-res A4 copy. I’ve been sending it on to as many people/places as possible including schools, hospitals and design agencies. All good fun!
To the Bride and Groom…
I was asked to create a logo and identity for a newly qualified life and business coach recently. Gemma came to me with a clear idea of what she wanted and we developed it from there. She had been on a trip to New York and loved some of the architecture she saw at the Guggenheim Museum which is where the inspiration for the logo came from. The ‘cog’ icon you see in the logo is based on a shape situated on the ceiling of the museum and we found that the cogs fit perfectly together in a large number which could be said to represent various parts of your life/business working together in harmony.
We decided that there would be three brand colours; aqua, lime and berry- each to represent different areas of the coaching business. The cards were printed in the three brand colours and feature a positive message on each. The cards are below and the logo design can be seen in my logo portfolio. I hope you like them!
Last weekend I gave my guitar a much needed restring! I’ve neglected it for some time so it was in need of some TLC. I’ve yet to have a proper blast on it but I did take some nice shots of it. Here’s a few you might like…
On Saturday I did a really fun photo shoot with a client who makes nappy cakes. Nappy cakes are basically cute and clever cakes (or other designs) made up of rolled up nappies, socks, towels, teddies and other products which are perfect for new born babies. Vicky is great at what she does and with a toddler of her own, she knows exactly the sort of things every new mum needs! Check out the cute little cupcakes made from baby socks-how clever is that?!
I’ve also been working on a new logo and website design for Vicky which should be up and running soon. Check out www.nappycakesdirect.com to see her gorgeous collection.
In September 2001 I started my degree in Advertising at The University Of Central Lancashire. I loved creating ads. When I left college everybody expected me to do a degree in art or illustration but I really wanted to do something which I didn’t know much about or know if I was any good at! The other subjects seemed too safe so I wanted a real challenge. Within my first few weeks I knew this was the degree for me- I got to create clever and witty headlines for ads week in, week out and I loved it! The buzz of coming up with that winning tagline or creating an ad which really caught people’s attention was totally addictive. From that moment on, copywriting and art direction were my new passions in life.
Sadly, I never pursued a career in advertising because I’d heard stories of graduates having to work for free or working ’til rediculous o’clock- I just wanted to earn money right away and finish at a reasonable time (call me old-fashioned!) I sort of regret it now as I don’t think I’ve ever had that buzz since. Don’t get me wrong, I love designing but with ads you really have the potential to make someone stop and think, laugh or cry. It must be exciting to see an ad you’ve created plastered on a 48 sheet in town or blurting out on TV!
Here are a few ads I created for my degree show in June 2004…
Wires fans! Feel free to download this wallpaper and make it your Facebook profile for the big weekend. If you can add my website as the title www.jocopops.com that’d be super-duper!
The Warrington Wolves have done it again and are off to fight it out with Leeds Rhinos in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley this weekend. In celebration of this, I designed and printed some cards for my dad and his friends who are travelling down to support them…dressed as Bananamen! If you see them, ask for a card! (apologies now if they can’t stand up or string sentences together)
C’mon The Wire!!!
